LINX Client: DirecTV

Location: Englewood, CO

Keeping Promises:

As an industry leader, DirecTV provides satellite service to more than 16 million customers.  Were proud to say that LINX expert network infrastructure design and installation helps DirecTV keep its promise to “deliver the best TV experience” to its customers every day.

Account Overview & Scope:

To meet the demands of an aggressive design and build schedule for the DirecTV network infrastructure renovation project, effective communication between LINX and its customer was paramount.  Over 4,500 locations were installed and over 750,000 ft of copper cable was used to connect everything from large
television screens covering a 20ft wall area in the main lobby to offices, conference rooms, a call center and data center.  LINX installed backbone and horizontal cabling, comprised of copper and optical fiber, and related support systems.

The secure data center was outfitted with fiber guide (yellow) and flex basket tray, keeping the floor area clear to allow room for additional cabinets.  Plenum-Rated 4- pair Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) enhanced category 6 rated copper cable for high speed LAN connectivity was installed at over 4,500 locations on 7 floors.

This project challenged LINX to design and install a network at an existing facility which was undergoing a renovation in which portions of the current infrastructure would continue to be utilized along side the new.  Once LINX began installation, the contrast in quality between the superior quality LINX installation and existing terminations became very clear.  DirecTV was so pleased with what LINX had done that we were asked to demolish and replace several cabinet terminations not included on the original RFP.  To finalize each phase of the project, LINX thoroughly documented testing conducted using Fluke DTX-1800 testers.

Project Details:

Neutral host cabling backbone was installed from the roof to the basement for cell phone usage throughout the building.  RG-11 backbone was installed from the roof to basement connected to satellite dishes on the roof.  This backbone supports over 2000 locations for RG-6 connectivity, TVs installed in offices as well as bullpen TVs in cubical areas.
