Location: Aurora, CO (Fitzsimons Campus)
                      Denver, CO (St. Joseph’s Hospital)
                      Westminster, Littleton & Parker, CO

A Sense of Scale:

The new Children’s Hospital has 270-beds and occupies approximately 1.44 million square feet on a 48 acre site. The new facility is 73 percent larger than the existing Children’s Hospital in downtown Denver .
Account Overview & Scope:

The Children’s Hospital project at the Aurora, CO Fitzsimons Campus has been one of the most expansive projects LINX has ever undertaken.  The facility consists of a 1.1 million-sq. ft. hospital (350,000 sq. ft admin pavilion and 175,000 sq. ft Behavioral Health bldg.), a 5,700 ft main data center and collapsed fiber backbone consisting of 2,056 strands of single mode fiber and 934 strands of multimode fiber.  LINX has eagerly risen to meet the challenge to integrate all of the facility’s low voltage infrastructure including: security, data, voice, nurse call, wireless and monitoring systems.

The cabling infrastructure for the new Children’s Hospital features a 2,500-sq. ft. main cross-connect, 3 entrance rooms and a 5,700-square foot main data center. The facilities 47 IDFs are run to the data center by way of the 10-gigabit Ethernet collapsed fiber backbone to manage simultaneous traffic at maximum speed.  Each of the 47 IDFs is connected with 12 strands of 50- micron multimode fiber to support existing equipment and 48 strands of single-mode fiber for new equipment, all totaling roughly 3,000 strands of fiber.

The facility’s unique entertainment portals in each room are supported by coax and Category 5e cable, providing CATV, video on demand, and Internet access via a 32- inch LCD display to each patient.  Over 6 million feet of Category 5e cable provides over 30,000 connections to integrate all the facility's low-voltage systems. The network, VOIP, Internet connectivity, telephones, video surveillance, access control, wireless network access, monitoring systems, wireless voice and more are all supported by the quality cable infrastructure installed, tested and maintained by skilled LINX technicians.
